HIPAA Notice

Health information & HIPAA

Nevada Autism Support Alliance is a non-profit family support organization. We are not a healthcare provider, health plan, or healthcare clearinghouse, and we do not provide medical, diagnostic, or therapy services. For that reason, NASA itself is generally not a "covered entity" under the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

That said, we understand families share sensitive health-related details with us — diagnosis status, therapy providers, insurance information — and we treat that information with the same care HIPAA expects of providers.

Our commitments

  • We use submitted health-related information only to review your request and coordinate help you've asked for.
  • We will never share your child's information with a therapy clinic, insurer, school, or other provider without your explicit written consent.
  • We store information using encrypted, access-controlled cloud infrastructure.
  • Only authorized NASA staff and volunteers reviewing your case can see your record.
  • We disclose information without consent only when required by law (for example, mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect).

Your rights

You may ask us at any time to view, correct, or delete the information you have shared with us. Requests for medical records held by your providers must be made directly with those providers.

This notice is informational and is not a HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices. For your providers' HIPAA notices, contact them directly.
